Campaign Update: Ditch Detention (Anti-Slavery)

There has been an update from antislavery.org:

I wanted to update you about our campaign demanding that the Government Ditch Detention for survivors of modern slavery.

We are pleased to report that the Government has granted a debate on this issue which is set to happen tomorrow.

This will allow MPs to explain to the Government why it is unacceptable for survivors of modern slavery to be locked up in prison-like settings - and, we hope, will give the Government an opportunity to step back from this harmful plan.

But we’re not stopping there. The Government has now released a consultation on its 'New Plan for Immigration', and we'll be using this opportunity to fight for crucial protections for survivors and victims of modern slavery. This Government’s plan could cause serious harm to children and adults who’ve experienced or are facing exploitation including slavery. They deserve protection and support after their ordeal, not additional trauma.

Thank you so much for your support at this important moment in our battle to secure crucial protections for those affected by modern slavery in the UK.

With best wishes,

Jasmine O’Connor OBE

Chief Executive Officer

Anti-Slavery International
